Expanding LCL Services: DACHSER Introduces New Routes between Rotterdam and Asia

DACHSER’s air and sea freight division is making significant strides in enhancing its services, particularly with the introduction of new fixed Less than Container Load (LCL) connections between the port of Rotterdam and various ports in Asia, featuring fixed departure schedules.

Since late 2023, DACHSER has been establishing weekly LCL export connections from Rotterdam to key ports such as Shanghai, Nhava Sheva, and Dubai (serving as a hub for distribution within the Gulf States), along with LCL import connections from Shanghai and Shenzhen to Rotterdam. Plans are underway to incorporate additional LCL connections throughout 2024. These connections utilize DACHSER’s consolidated containers.

LCL services offer considerable advantages for customers who do not require a full container for their shipments. By sharing both the space and cost of a container, customers benefit from cost-effective shipping solutions. What distinguishes DACHSER’s approach is the loading and unloading of shipments at their own logistics facility on a weekly basis, adhering to fixed schedules. The consolidation of shipments in DACHSER’s containers eliminates the need for co-loaders, streamlining the logistics chain and providing greater control over the entire process.

Wilco Versteegh, Managing Director of DACHSER Air & Sea Logistics Benelux, emphasizes the benefits of managing the entire supply chain. “Because we manage the entire supply chain, we always know where the shipments are and when they will be shipped, which gives us sovereignty over the logistics process,” Versteegh states. “In addition, the elimination of links ensures that goods get from source to market faster. This can help minimize inventory costs and can promote consumer satisfaction.”

The proximity of the DACHSER Rotterdam Logistics Centre to the port of Rotterdam is pivotal in facilitating these operations. With the Air & Sea Logistics, Contract Logistics, and European Logistics (road transport) divisions co-located under the leadership of Aat van der Meer, Managing Director of DACHSER Benelux, communication lines are short, enabling swift decision-making. This strategic advantage positions the branch as an ideal hub for the 90 daily road groupage departures to destinations across Europe.

DACHSER’s expansion of LCL services between Rotterdam and Asia underscores its commitment to providing efficient and cost-effective shipping solutions, bolstering its position as a key player in the global logistics industry.
