Gebrüder Weiss Expands its Presence in Southern Germany with Amm Logistics Acquisition

Gebrüder Weiss, the renowned international logistics company with a legacy spanning over 500 years, is set to further solidify its foothold in Southern Germany. The acquisition of the Konradsreuth location from Amm logistics GmbH marks another strategic move following the recent takeover of Wedlich logistics in Bayreuth. The transaction, slated for the beginning of 2024 pending antitrust approval, underscores Gebrüder Weiss’s commitment to growth and strengthening its land transport network in the region.

The Konradsreuth location, situated near Hof, will seamlessly integrate into Gebrüder Weiss’s operations, operating under its brand within the German general cargo cooperations Cargoline and NG.network. This move aligns with Gebrüder Weiss’s focus on providing comprehensive logistics solutions, covering land, air, and sea freight, across its 180 global locations.

Wolfram Senger-Weiss, CEO of Gebrüder Weiss, emphasized the strategic significance of the acquisition, particularly in the context of the company’s deliberate positioning as a medium-sized player. With annual revenues reaching three billion euros, Gebrüder Weiss aims to offer a compelling alternative to industry giants. Senger-Weiss stated, “We are closer to our customers and employees, but can still offer a company-owned global network. Konradsreuth is going to play a central role within our national and international land transport network.”

The Upper Franconia region, where Konradsreuth is located, serves as a crucial industrial hub and an ideal transshipment point for land transports connecting Eastern Europe with Southern Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Werner Dettenthaler, Managing Director Land Transport Germany at Gebrüder Weiss, highlighted the strategic importance of this location, stating, “We are closing a geographic gap in Bavaria with the Konradsreuth location, offering our customers a wide network of locations from Upper Bavaria to Upper Franconia.”

The acquisition will see Gebrüder Weiss retaining all 180 employees at the Konradsreuth location. The company’s intention to invest in the long-term development of the location aligns with its vision of maintaining a strong, sustainable corporate culture. Ralf Amm, the previous owner of the location, expressed confidence in Gebrüder Weiss, stating, “In Gebrüder Weiss, we have found an owner-managed logistics company with a sustainable corporate culture who intends to invest in the location and its employees in the long run.”

The Konradsreuth location’s existing memberships in the German general cargo cooperations Cargoline and NG.network will continue under Gebrüder Weiss, providing added stability to the general cargo networks.

For Alexander Prittig, who will remain as the Branch Manager in Konradsreuth under the Gebrüder Weiss umbrella, this integration represents a significant opportunity for local businesses. He highlighted, “Our local know-how will be complemented by an established international network. In this way, apart from national and international land transports, we can also offer air and sea freight as well as other digital services to our customers in the future.”
