Grand Opening of Wilmington Waterfront Promenade Marks a Transformative Moment for Port of Los Angeles

The Port of Los Angeles is gearing up for a monumental celebration of the grand opening of the Wilmington Waterfront Promenade, a stunning $77.3 million public park and recreation space. The event is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 3, promising a spectacular “window to the waterfront” for the Wilmington community.

Los Angeles City Councilmember Tim McOsker, the Los Angeles Harbor Commission, Port officials, and community leaders will converge to commemorate this transformative project. The Promenade, stretching an impressive 1,300 feet, aims to redefine community access to the water’s edge.

Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka expressed, “This project will be transformational for the Wilmington community,” attributing its success to community input from the outset and the dedication of elected leaders and Port employees.

Located at 301 S. Avalon Blvd. in Wilmington, adjacent to Banning’s Landing Community Center, the Promenade boasts a “picnic pier” over the water, a public floating dock, waterfront seating, and shading. The site also features an expansive open space bluff and pedestrian/bicycle trails with panoramic waterfront views.

The Wilmington Waterfront Promenade is the second of three major projects, following the opening of Wilmington Waterfront Park in 2011. Later this year, the Port will commence the Avalon Promenade Bridge and Gateway project, connecting the south end of Wilmington’s main corridor directly to the LA Waterfront via a pedestrian bridge.

As the Wilmington Waterfront Promenade prepares to unveil its splendor, it stands as a testament to collaboration, community engagement, and a vision for a more accessible and vibrant waterfront. The Port of Los Angeles, through this project, continues to redefine the landscape of maritime infrastructure and public spaces.
