Jan De Nul Group Extends Connectivity Contract with Castor Marine

Jan De Nul Group has decided to extend its contract with Castor Marine, a leading provider of maritime communication solutions. The renewed contract encompasses a comprehensive hybrid solution, incorporating both Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) connectivity, catering to a diverse fleet of over 80 vessels.

Broad Spectrum of Vessels Covered

Jan De Nul Group’s extensive fleet, comprising dredgers, jack-up barges, cable installation vessels, fall-pipe rock installation vessels, multipurpose ships, heavy lift vessels, and Unmanned Survey Vessels, will benefit from this upgraded connectivity arrangement. The decision follows Jan De Nul’s initial contract with Castor Marine in 2021, where over 80 vessels were equipped with Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT), Iridium, and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services.

Starlink Integration Marks a Technological Leap

The standout feature of this renewed contract is the inclusion of Starlink, Elon Musk’s satellite internet constellation. This addition propels Castor Marine’s hybrid LEO and GEO service, promising enhanced internet speed and reduced latency. The integration of Starlink is anticipated to significantly improve both crew welfare and business operations for Jan De Nul Group.

Comprehensive Package for Global Operations

The contract not only covers VSAT, Starlink, Iridium, and VoIP services but also encompasses the provision of essential hardware and 24/7 support services for Jan De Nul Group’s globally active fleet. This holistic approach ensures seamless connectivity across diverse geographical locations and operational scenarios.

Positive Feedback from Jan De Nul Group

Nils Crabeel, Vessel Communication Manager at Jan De Nul Group, expressed satisfaction with Castor Marine’s performance over the past three years. He highlighted the importance of reliability, trust-building, and efficient support services, especially in the dynamic field where Jan De Nul frequently requires temporary project upgrades and downgrades on its vessels.

Tailored Connectivity Solutions

Castor Marine’s expertise lies in delivering tailored connectivity solutions, meeting the specific quality of service requirements outlined by Jan De Nul Group. The flexibility demonstrated by Castor Marine in operational and commercial aspects has allowed Jan De Nul’s fleet to scale up seamlessly, addressing ad hoc, high-bandwidth demands with short notice.

Mark Olthuis, Director Maritime Offshore & Energy at Castor Marine, expressed gratitude for Jan De Nul’s continued trust. As a VSAT Network Operator and Authorized Starlink Reseller, Castor Marine remains committed to providing the best mix of LEO and GEO connectivity services by staying abreast of emerging technologies.

This extended contract signifies a strategic collaboration geared towards technological advancement and improved operational efficiency for Jan De Nul Group’s diverse maritime fleet.
