Jumbo Moves Richard Bay Loader

Heavy-lift firm Jumbo has transported two over-dimensional ship loaders from China to South Africa.ship loader

The giant units weighed 830 tonnes each and were carried aboard the heavy-lift vessels Jumbo Javelin and Jumbo Jubilee. A specialist team from Jumbo arranged the transport from Tianjin to Richards Bay.

“This project required detailed engineering because of the width of the cargo exceeding the breadth of the ship. Jumbo was involved throughout the design and construction phase of the ship loaders to ensure their safe, efficient and successful transportation,” a spokesperson for Jumbo said.

Jumbo provides heavy-lift and project cargo services worldwide from its base in Schiedam in the Netherlands. The company operates a fleet of heavy-lift vessels with a lifting capacity from 500 tonnes up to 3,000 tonnes.

This fleet includes two J-1800 class construction support vessels – the Jumbo Fairplayer and Jumbo Javelin – which are equipped with a DP2 system to provide transport in combination with offshore installation services.
