Kuehne+Nagel Embraces Sustainable Logistics in Thailand with Electric Vehicles

Kuehne+Nagel has commenced operations with electric vehicles (EV) in Thailand, effective this month. The deployment of EVs is aimed at enhancing the company’s services to its customers in the region.

The electric vehicles will primarily be utilized for pre-carriage to the Bangkok airport, with a focus on pick-ups in the provinces of Chonburi and Rayong. These regions boast the highest customer density for Kuehne+Nagel, making them strategic choices for EV operations. The driving range of up to 200km with a single charge aligns seamlessly with the distances involved in these operations.

The launch ceremony, attended by key figures in the industry, featured Siew Loong Wong, President of Kuehne+Nagel Asia Pacific, and Anish Kumar Jha, Managing Director of Kuehne+Nagel Thailand. Notably, Mr. Marius Mehner, Deputy Executive Director of the German-Thai Chamber of Commerce, emphasized the pivotal role of decarbonizing the transport sectors and the broader industry.

Governments play a crucial role in supporting such sustainability initiatives. In February, the Thai government expanded its incentive program, specifically focusing on promoting the adoption of electric trucks and local production of EV battery cells. Additionally, the country has been actively expanding its charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, particularly in the metropolitan area of Bangkok. These proactive measures have significantly contributed to heightened interest among Kuehne+Nagel’s customers in reducing their carbon footprints.

The incorporation of electric vehicles aligns with the global trend towards eco-friendly logistics solutions. Kuehne+Nagel’s commitment to leveraging EVs not only addresses environmental concerns but also aligns with evolving customer expectations for sustainable and responsible business practices in the logistics and cargo industry.

Kuehne+Nagel’s initiative in Thailand marks a positive stride towards a more environmentally conscious future in the logistics sector.
