Switzerland-based logistics, Kuehne+Nagel, has clinched a major deal with Chinese OEM Envision Energy, marking a significant leap in the transportation of green energy infrastructure. The contract entails ferrying an impressive cargo of 190 offshore wind turbine generators and 67 tower sets to the budding Saudi Arabian special economic zone, Neom.

This ambitious undertaking falls within the expansive Neom project, which is slated to require the meticulous transportation of a staggering 1.4 million tons of wind turbine generators. To achieve this feat, Kuehne+Nagel is assembling a formidable team of over 100 experts, ranging from project logistics professionals to vessel chartering specialists, transport engineers, drivers, and riggers. The timeline for this substantial endeavor stretches until the anticipated culmination in 2025.

With its sights set on ensuring seamless coordination, Kuehne+Nagel has established a dedicated office in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. This central hub will oversee the orchestration of activities both at Neom’s bustling port and the wind farm site itself, streamlining operations for maximum efficiency.

Situated in Saudi Arabia’s northwest region, Neom is more than just an economic zone; it encompasses a groundbreaking initiative known as “The Line.” Described as a carbon-neutral linear smart city, this innovative concept is currently taking shape along the shores of the Red Sea.

As the wheels turn towards completion, Neom’s wind farm is poised to churn out a colossal 1.67 gigawatts of renewable energy. This power will serve as the lifeblood for the Neom Green Hydrogen Company, an enterprise touted as the globe’s largest producer of hydrogen on a grand scale.

The project took a significant stride in June when Chinese OEM Envision Energy was chosen to supply nearly 1.7 gigawatts of its cutting-edge 6.5-megawatt wind turbines for the venture.

Stefan Paul, the CEO of Kuehne+Nagel International, articulated his optimism about this landmark project. He emphasized, “We see great potential in providing solutions for renewable energy customers, and the Neom project is a testament to our logistics expertise in this high-growth field that supports the global energy transition.”
