Maersk Inaugurates Specialized Cross Dock Warehouse in Rotterdam

ROTTERDAM, Netherlands – A.P. Moller – Maersk, a global logistics leader, has unveiled a state-of-the-art Cross Dock warehouse at its Maasvlakte II terminal in Rotterdam. This specialized facility is poised to revolutionize cargo handling processes, particularly in the Benelux, German, and French hinterland, by streamlining the flow of goods from vessel arrival to final destination. The warehouse, spanning 23,000 sqm and equipped with 120 docks, marks a significant milestone in enhancing supply chain efficiency.

Starbucks is among the first customers to benefit from this innovative warehouse solution, which enables rapid unpacking, transloading, and dispatch of containers to their respective endpoints within hours. At full capacity, the warehouse is expected to generate over 200 new job opportunities, contributing to economic growth in the region.

Ole Trumpfheller, Managing Director of Maersk North Europe Continent Area, emphasized the strategic importance of the Cross Dock in bolstering supply chain resilience and flexibility amidst global disruptions. By integrating priority flow services, Maersk aims to expedite cargo movement, offering unparalleled delivery speed and reliability.

Located within Maersk’s Maasvlakte II terminal, the Cross Dock enjoys seamless connectivity to road networks and facilitates efficient container management, reducing costs for customers. Furthermore, the facility provides a bonded customs environment and accommodates value-added services, enhancing operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.

In line with Maersk’s commitment to sustainability, the Cross Dock is constructed to BREEAM Excellent standards, ensuring minimal environmental impact. Additionally, leveraging synergies with the adjacent cold-store warehouse, Maersk plans to harness excess heat for energy savings, aligning with its ambitious decarbonization goals.
