Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) proudly announced the successful conclusion of the 1st Commencement Exercises Ceremony at MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy Inc (MMMA), a collaborative effort with Magsaysay Maritime Corporation (MMC) in the Philippines. Attended by approximately 600 individuals, including special guests Congressman Ron Salo, Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Kazuhiko Koshikawa, and Doris Magsaysay Ho, President and CEO of MMC’s shareholding company, A. Magsaysay, Inc., the ceremony marked a significant milestone in maritime education and industry collaboration.

MOL President & CEO Takeshi Hashimoto, in his congratulatory address, expressed deep appreciation to the school community and the graduates’ families for their resilience during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hashimoto’s message to the graduates emphasized leveraging the knowledge and experience gained at the academy to forge new paths in their maritime careers.

Highlighting the post-graduation trajectory, approximately half of the graduates are set to join MOL Group as third officers and third engineers, eventually progressing to captain and chief engineer positions. This strategic move aligns with the growing importance of securing highly skilled seafarers to ensure the safety of global seaborne trade.

As global seaborne trade continues to surge, the demand for competent seafarers becomes paramount. Filipino seafarers, integral to MOL Group’s crewmembers, are expected to play more active roles in providing safe transport services amidst advancing ship operation technology. MOL Group remains committed to cultivating competent seafarers through the four-year training and basic education provided at MMMA.

The initiative not only focuses on meeting industry demands but also aligns with MOL Group’s broader sustainability goals. By contributing to the growth and development of individuals and communities, the group aims to create jobs that have a positive impact. MOL Group reaffirms its commitment to safety-focused operations, positioning itself as a responsible custodian in the social infrastructure business.

The 1st Commencement Exercises Ceremony at MMMA stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts of MOL and MMC in shaping the future of maritime education and producing highly skilled seafarers.
