In a significant development for the offshore wind sector, an affiliate of the renowned DEME Group has secured a pivotal contract in Taiwan. Ørsted, a leading player in renewable energy, has entrusted CDWE, the joint venture between DEME and Taiwanese shipbuilding giant CSBC, with the crucial task of conducting seabed levelling and scour protection for the Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms.
The extensive scope of work encompasses seabed levelling and scour protection for both the offshore substation and the 66 wind turbine generator sites. The deployment of vessels from DEME’s cutting-edge hopper dredger and fallpipe fleet is slated to commence in the first quarter of 2025.
Positioned 35-60 kilometers off the Changhua County coastline in Taiwan, the ambitious 920 MW Greater Changhua 2b and 4 wind farms promise to be a significant leap forward in sustainable energy infrastructure.
This milestone achievement further cements DEME and its affiliates as prominent players in the burgeoning Taiwanese offshore wind market. Notably, in August, ‘Green Jade’, the inaugural offshore wind installation vessel built in Taiwan and operated by CDWE, embarked on the installation campaign for the jacket foundations of the 298 MW Zhong Neng offshore wind farm. DEME has also clinched contracts accounting for an impressive 1 GW for the Hai Long wind farm in Taiwan, along with turbine installation agreements for the Changfang and Xidao, and Zhong Neng offshore wind farms.
This latest contract win underlines CDWE’s unwavering commitment to advancing the renewable energy landscape and propelling Taiwan’s position as a key player in the global transition towards sustainable power sources.
