Belgium’s Port Oostende Welcomes REBO’s New Warehouse, Boosting Logistics and Maritime Growth
In a stride towards enhancing its maritime logistics prowess, the Port of Oostende proudly inaugurated the new 6,900 m² warehouse, a strategic investment by subsidiary REBO nv. The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of key figures including Mayor of Oostende, Bart Tommelein, President of Port Oostende, Charlotte Verkeyn, and CEO Dirk Declerck.
Turning Vision into Reality
The inauguration of the sprawling warehouse is a testament to the shared vision of Port Oostende and its subsidiaries to actively participate in the maritime logistics chain. The investment aligns seamlessly with REBO nv’s overarching strategy, serving as a milestone since its acquisition in October 2019. The offshore wind terminal underwent transformation into a multipurpose heavy weight terminal, further solidifying the port’s commitment to comprehensive maritime services.
Catalyzing Maritime Traffic
REBO nv’s investment of approximately 3.5 million euros in the expansive warehouse underscores Port Oostende’s determination to attract heightened maritime traffic. This commitment stems from the acquisition of the remaining 85% shares in 2019, propelling the port towards a more active role in the logistics maritime chain. The success of the terminal’s repositioning is evident in this new warehouse investment.
Operational management of the warehouse rests with REBO, ensuring the implementation of modern logistics practices. The primary focus lies on optimizing the rotation of goods rather than mere storage, in line with evolving industry demands such as energy transition and enhanced planning.
Voices of Leadership
Charlotte Verkeyn, President of Port Oostende, expresses enthusiasm for the prospects the REBO warehouse unlocks, emphasizing its role in the port’s future development. CEO Dirk Declerck highlights the warehouse’s significance in bolstering port continuity, citing its strategic location, heavy weight quays, and a robust RORO pontoon with a 650-tonne capacity as pivotal factors that will attract more maritime traffic.
Bart Tommelein, Mayor of Oostende and President of REBO nv, reinforces the positive impact of increased traffic on both the port’s growth and the city’s employment opportunities.
Port Oostende’s Vision
Port Oostende’s unwavering commitment rests on five pillars: Blue Economy, Lift-on Lift-off & Bulk & Project Cargo, Cruises & Roll-on-roll-off, Circular Industry, and the Fisheries Sector. These pillars will be fortified through prioritizing safety, health, environment, innovation, and development.
With the inauguration of the REBO warehouse, the Port of Oostende embarks on a new chapter of maritime growth and logistical prowess, poised to shape the region’s maritime landscape and expand its role within the global supply chain.
