Safeguarding the Dutch Coastline: Van Oord’s Sustainable Approach to Coastal Protection

The coastal areas of the Netherlands, particularly in the province of Zeeland, face an ongoing battle against erosion caused by currents, waves, and wind. Van Oord has been contracted to preserve the coastline and ensuring the safety of the land behind it. In collaboration with Rijkswaterstaat, they have implemented a beach nourishment program that not only prevents erosion but also brings multiple advantages to the coastal ecosystem.

Van Oord has deployed their trailing suction hopper dredgers, M.V. Vox Ariane and M.V. Vox Apolonia, for the beach nourishment project. These vessels stand out not only for their advanced technology but also for their commitment to sustainability. Operating on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), these dredgers significantly reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
