Swire Projects Unveils Western Australia Express (WAX) Service

Swire Projects, the projects and heavy lift shipping services arm of Swire Shipping, proudly announces the launch of the Western Australia Express (WAX) service. This monthly semi-liner shipping service seamlessly connects major ports in China, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, the rest of Southeast Asia, and Western Australia.

Enhancing Connectivity for Breakbulk and Project Cargo

The WAX service is strategically designed to cater to the unique needs of breakbulk and project cargo, offering a combination of reliable departures and arrivals. It establishes a crucial link between Asia and the Pilbara region, providing businesses with a dependable and flexible transportation solution. The service features dedicated base ports and the adaptability to include additional ports, ensuring comprehensive coverage for customers.

Namir Khanbabi, General Manager of Swire Projects, expressed the company’s dedication to better serving the Western Australian region, saying, “The WAX service stemmed from our recognition of the need for a dependable breakbulk and project cargo shipping service connecting Asia to the Pilbara region and the wider Western Australia.” He added, “We are proud of the success the WAX service has seen since its launch and we look forward to continuing to provide our customers with safe, efficient, and flexible transportation solutions to meet their various needs.”

Vessels Designed for Versatility

The WAX service employs Swire Projects’ versatile multipurpose heavy lift vessels, capable of transporting a wide range of cargo types, including traditional bulk cargoes. This includes I-Type vessels with a lifting capacity of 2×240 tons and E/F-Type vessels with a lifting capacity of 2×120/150 tons. Both vessel types emphasize operational efficiency and secure transportation for both traditional bulk cargoes and specialized project cargo.

Commitment to the Pilbara Region

In a testament to their commitment to customers in the Pilbara region, Swire Projects’ parent company, Swire Shipping, has upgraded its North West Australia Direct (NWD) service. The enhanced service now delivers directly into Port Hedland every 10 days, with onward connections within Port Hedland facilitated via trucking.

With the WAX and NWD services operating in tandem, Swire Shipping aims to provide increased frequency, greater port coverage, schedule reliability, supply chain robustness, and risk mitigation through multiple delivery options connecting Western Australia and the rest of the world.

This network redesign demonstrates Swire Shipping’s commitment to offering end-to-end direct shipping and integrated last-mile solutions for the Western Australian region. This approach not only facilitates efficient cargo management but also significantly contributes to reduced carbon emissions.

In conclusion, Swire Projects’ introduction of the WAX service and the upgrade of the NWD service showcase the company’s dedication to enhancing solutions for the Western Australian region, solidifying its position as a leader in the maritime and project freight industry.
