Fugro Expands Presence in South Korea with Launch of “Fugro UST21”

In a move to fortify its foothold in South Korea’s burgeoning offshore renewable energy sector, Fugro has inaugurated a new office named “Fugro UST21” in Incheon. This initiative comes as part of a collaborative effort with UST21, a distinguished South Korean marine technology company, marking a significant milestone in Fugro’s commitment to supporting the green energy transition in the region.

The establishment of Fugro UST21 stands as a testament to the long-standing partnership between Fugro and UST21, dating back to 2019 when the two entities entered into a Memorandum of Understanding. This collaboration has been instrumental in actively contributing to South Korea’s offshore renewable energy landscape.

Jerry Paisley, Fugro’s Regional Sales Director for APAC, expressed enthusiasm about the development, stating, “We’ve already been working closely with UST21 for several years, but this new office allows us to better support our valued South Korean clients and meet their growing offshore needs as part of the green energy transition.”

South Korea, currently ranking as the world’s eighth-largest power consumer, is poised for substantial growth in its offshore windfarm sector. Projections indicate an influx of around 14 GW of fixed-bottom and floating wind projects by 2030. Fugro UST21 positions itself strategically to harness these opportunities, providing essential Geo-data solutions to facilitate South Korea’s offshore windfarm developments.

Jongwook Kim, UST21’s CEO, shared insights into the collaborative vision, stating, “Opening the Fugro UST21 office combines our ocean data experience of over 20 years with Fugro’s advanced technology to offer unparalleled Geo-data solutions. This will help build and maintain South Korea’s future offshore windfarms, contributing not only to sustainable energy but also to the blue economy.”

The significance of this expansion lies not only in its immediate impact on Fugro’s presence in South Korea but also in its potential to shape the trajectory of the offshore renewable energy sector in the region. Fugro UST21 is well-positioned to play a pivotal role in providing crucial insights through advanced Geo-data solutions, aligning with the evolving needs of the green energy landscape.

As South Korea continues to embrace the shift towards renewable energy, Fugro’s investment in this new office underscores its commitment to facilitating sustainable and technologically advanced solutions. The collaboration with UST21 reinforces the combined expertise of both entities, setting the stage for continued innovation and growth in South Korea’s offshore renewable energy sector.
