Van Oord Secures Contract for FSRU Wilhelmshaven’s Jetty Construction

Van Oord, a leading maritime services provider, has clinched a significant contract from FSRU Wilhelmshaven, a joint venture between ENGIE and TES (Tree Energy Solution). The task at hand involves the construction of a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) jetty located in Wilhelmshaven, Germany. DET (Deutsche Energy Terminal GmbH), a state-owned entity, will oversee the operational aspects of this second FSRU project in Wilhelmshaven, aligning with Germany’s LNG Acceleration law, enacted in May 2022 to fortify the country’s energy security.

Van Oord, with its extensive marine services portfolio, brings forth a unique approach to this project, blending expertise in dredging, infrastructure, and offshore energy. The FSRU jetty in Wilhelmshaven, a key element in meeting the escalating energy demand, will be entirely procured and constructed by Van Oord. The company is fully committed to delivering solutions that not only meet safety standards but also ensure operational efficiency.

Incorporating monopiles as the foundation for the jetty, Van Oord is set to install a total of 10 monopiles, complete with scour protection. The foundations will be equipped with essential components such as platforms, catwalks, and furniture. To streamline the process, a trailing suction hopper dredger will be deployed for dredging the berth pocket and turning basin, showcasing Van Oord’s dedication to meeting ambitious timelines.

August Runge, Commercial Director at Van Oord, expressed pride in being part of this transformative project, stating, “We are proud to be part of this project, leveraging our extensive portfolio of marine capabilities. Through the synergy of our expertise, experience, and cutting-edge equipment, we were able to provide a tailor-made integrated solution to our client’s challenge.”

The LNG Acceleration law, a pivotal legislation in Germany, aims to bridge the supply gap and enhance the nation’s energy security. With a strategic focus on this law, DET, along with partners TES and Engie, is steering Wilhelmshaven’s FSRU project toward successful completion.

Van Oord’s role in this venture highlights the company’s commitment to innovation, efficiency, and contributing to vital energy infrastructure projects. As the global energy landscape evolves, partnerships like these underscore the industry’s concerted efforts to meet demand while maintaining a strong emphasis on safety and operational excellence.
