In a remarkable display of international collaboration, deugro, a leading logistics provider, has achieved a significant milestone by successfully delivering two oversized and heavy lift drum sections from China to France for the Golbey PM1 Project in the pulp and paper industry. The achievement was made possible through the combined efforts of deugro Germany, deugro China, deugro Belgium, and deugro France.

The intricate operation encompassed a complex series of transport maneuvers. The journey commenced at the Port of Shanghai, China, where the massive drum sections were loaded onto dship’s MV Annie. The cargo then embarked on a carefully planned route, arriving at the Port of Antwerp, Belgium. Here, deugro’s dedicated teams meticulously discharged the cargo, assembling and installing a cable guiding system onto the drums.

The next leg of the journey saw the cargo making its way to the river Port of Frouard, France, marking a crucial transition point. The challenge escalated as the oversized drums faced the intricate on-carriage route to Golbey, France, where the pulp and paper facility awaited the crucial components. The unique dimensions of the drums, measuring up to 32 meters in length, 5.6 meters in width, and 5.7 meters in height, presented formidable obstacles.

Overcoming these challenges required meticulous planning and engineering ingenuity. deugro’s teams, working in collaboration with their client Voith Paper, commenced preparations more than 2.5 years prior to the transportation process. In-depth feasibility assessments were conducted to determine the cargo’s maximum size that could be safely transported. These assessments included comprehensive route surveys, turning simulations, and swept path analyses, carried out by dteq Transport Engineering Solutions and local partners on behalf of deugro.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the journey was navigating through the intricate road networks and sharp turns, particularly within the Town of Lunéville. Ambra Gotsch, Project Coordinator at deugro Germany, highlighted the complexity, stating, “The most challenging part of the journey was the maneuvering through the many traffic circles and tight turns, as well as traversing the Town of Lunéville.”

To facilitate safe navigation through Lunéville’s sharp turns, a strategic solution was implemented. The cargo underwent a transfer from conventional THP trailers to self-propelled modular trailers, utilizing a jacking/stooling operation. This allowed for secure passage through the city’s demanding turns. Subsequently, the cargo was transferred back onto THP trailers for the remainder of the on-carriage, ensuring a successful delivery to the Golbey job site.

The Golbey PM1 Project’s accomplishment showcases the prowess of deugro’s logistics capabilities, technical expertise, and meticulous planning. It underscores the significance of international collaboration and innovative engineering in overcoming complex transportation challenges.
