DP World, has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Masdar, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, to spearhead renewable energy initiatives across its port operations in the Middle East and Africa.
In a recent statement, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, DP World Chairman and CEO, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating, “Our partnership with Masdar represents a significant step forward in our commitment to sustainable operations at our ports and terminals. By exploring renewable energy solutions, we aim to reduce our carbon footprint and drive positive change in the supply chain industry.”
The partnership focuses on the exploration and implementation of renewable energy systems, including solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS), within DP World’s global supply chain. Over the next three years, DP World and Masdar will collaborate to identify suitable locations for the deployment of these systems, initially targeting sites in Saudi Arabia, Senegal, and Egypt.
This initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy within DP World’s supply chain by addressing regulatory and operational challenges, particularly in emerging economies. Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, Masdar CEO, highlighted the importance of such partnerships in advancing renewable energy deployment, particularly in hard-to-abate sectors.
Masdar, renowned as a clean energy champion in the UAE and globally, is committed to driving the development and deployment of renewable energy and green hydrogen technologies to address sustainability challenges.
As part of its commitment to decarbonization, DP World has pledged to become carbon neutral by 2040 and net zero carbon by 2050, aligning with global climate initiatives such as the UNFCCC’s Race to Zero and UAE’s 2050 net zero initiative. The partnership with Masdar underscores DP World’s dedication to achieving these ambitious targets while fostering environmental stewardship in the maritime and logistics sectors.
Through collaborations with stakeholders ranging from logistics companies to governments and NGOs, DP World continues to advocate for urgent climate action and promote the adoption of innovative technologies to mitigate climate change impacts.
