ECOnnect Energy proudly announces its integral role in “Project Green,” an ambitious initiative spearheaded by APPL (Alternative Petroleum & Power Limited). This visionary project aims to position itself as a prominent supplier of clean E-fuels, such as e-methanol and green ammonia, in Africa.
Advancing Energy Diversification in Akwa Ibom State
Situated on an expansive 300-hectare site in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, “Project Green” signifies a substantial leap in energy diversification and the promotion of local content development. ECOnnect Energy, with its innovative jettyless terminal technology, is set to facilitate the marine-based export of 520,000 metric tonnes per annum of renewable (blue and green) methanol and 1,120,000 metric tonnes per annum of green ammonia. This marks a considerable contribution to the project’s commitment to sustainable energy and reducing dependency on imported fossil fuels.
Strategic Collaboration for Environmental Stewardship
ECOnnect Energy’s collaboration with APPL in “Project Green” underscores a shared vision for sustainable development and environmental stewardship. The jettyless terminal, designed by ECOnnect, will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and environmentally-sound export of methanol and green ammonia produced at the site.
Innovative Phases and Sustainable Approaches
The first phase of the project leverages local renewable hydropower and natural gas to produce blue methanol and green methanol for export. The e-methanol will be generated in a state-of-the-art 484 MWe combined cycle power plant with advanced post-combustion CO2 capture. This embodies the sustainable and circular approach to fuel production championed by “Project Green.” The subsequent phase will focus on the production of green ammonia, further solidifying the project’s role in fostering a greener future.
Commitment to Infrastructure and Development
“Project Green” extends beyond being an energy project; it is a commitment to substantial civil infrastructure development. This includes the construction of a hydropower dam, a 200MW connection to the Nigerian National Grid, and top-tier methanol and ammonia production facilities. With the goal of becoming fully operational by January 2029, ECOnnect Energy proudly contributes to this transformative initiative alongside esteemed partners.
A Visionary Partnership Commended
Idara Ekpo, Chief Visionary Officer at APPL, commended the partnership, stating, “ECOnnect provides low-impact technology that is the first of its kind. Their jettyless solution not only complements our environmental goals but also aligns perfectly with our project objectives, ensuring a short lead time and adding immense value to ‘Project Green’.”
Morten A. Christophersen, CEO at ECOnnect, expressed excitement, saying, “We are very excited to be part of this project. Our focus remains steadfast on delivering innovative, sustainable energy solutions and contributing to the socio-economic growth of the region.”
