Recently NGL Projects tasked Höegh Autoliners with the ocean transport of three heavy locomotives from Durban to Brisbane.
Each of the three locomotives measured 18-metre-long and weighed 109 metric tonnes, requiring special handling equipment. Over the years, Höegh Autoliners has developed innovative handling equipment to safely transport a more diverse range of breakbulk cargo.
Einar Bassøe, Head of Global Cargo Operations explains, “To safely transport heavier locomotives, we developed our Heavy Duty Rolltrailer. These 62-feet roll trailers are equipped with rails and enable us to transport rail cargo up to 140 Metric Tonnes.”
The locomotives were safely lashed on Höegh’s Heavy Duty roll trailers and loaded on board the New Horizon vessel Höegh Trigger.
Rolling cargo on board RoRo (Roll On Roll Off) vessels makes the operation smoother and safer as there is no high lifting involved. The safety continues when stowing cargo under deck, as it is protected from elements such as seawater and humidity.
The locomotives journey from Durban to Brisbane was made possible with Höegh’s regular Europe to South Africa and Oceania liner service.
