Expansion of Jumbo Offshore’s Role in Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm Project

Jumbo Offshore, a key player in the maritime and project freight sector, has clinched an additional contract, expanding its involvement in the prestigious Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm. Yunnneg Wind Power Co., Ltd. (YWPC) has awarded Jumbo Offshore the responsibility of removing specific monopiles at the wind farm, marking an extension of their existing commitments related to the transport and installation of the project’s transition pieces.

This new scope entails the removal of monopiles installed during a previous project phase, reaching depths approximately 3 meters below mean seabed level. To carry out this task, Jumbo Offshore will deploy its DP2 Heavy Lift Crane Vessel, the Fairplayer, equipped with specialized tools such as an underwater abrasive cutting and lifting tool, along with a remotely operated vehicle (ROV). The Fairplayer will systematically cut and lift the monopiles in sections, subsequently transferring them to its capacious 1,400m² cargo hold. The vessel will then transport these sections to a local Taiwanese port for unloading onto the quayside.

Milad Sheikhi, Head of Sales and Business Development at Jumbo Offshore, expressed gratitude for the trust bestowed upon the company by YWPC, stating, “Being awarded this additional scope shows trust in our performance, project management, engineering and installation capabilities, for which we are very grateful to our client.”

Brian Boutkan, Manager Commerce at Jumbo Offshore, emphasized the significance of the additional work on the Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm project. He highlighted Jumbo’s commitment to client satisfaction, stating, “We see this as a confirmation that Jumbo’s values bring real benefit to our clients. With our client-centric approach, we aim to cooperate with our customers as a partner in all that we do, in order to offer a reliable service that inspires confidence.”

The Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm, developed by Yunneng Wind Power Co., Ltd., is a joint venture involving Skybporn Renewables, TotalEnergies, Electricity Generating Public Company (EGCO), and Sojitz Corporation. Situated in the Taiwan Strait, 8 to 17 km off Taiwan’s west coast, the 82 km² offshore wind farm is set to house 80 wind turbine generators at water depths ranging from 8 to 35 meters. Upon completion, the 640 MW project is poised to become one of Taiwan’s largest offshore wind farms, generating clean energy sufficient to meet the electricity demands of over 600,000 Taiwanese households.
