Jumbo-SAL-Alliance has secured a pivotal contract from Jan De Nul for the secondary steel installation at the Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farms.
The MV Lone, after the successful completion of its vessel mobilization in mid-July 2023, has embarked on a transformative journey. Situated in Emden, the vessel underwent crucial enhancements, including the addition of a Fly-Jib, extra living quarters, and the integration of client-provided project equipment. A noteworthy upgrade includes the installation of a new tugger arm arrangement at crane 2, a move set to significantly enhance offshore operations.
The vessel then charted a course to Italy, playing a crucial role in collecting additional project equipment on behalf of Jan De Nul. Subsequently, the MV Lone made its way to Eemshaven for its first load-out of secondary steel components. These components are vital for the installation at Ørsted’s offshore wind farms, Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3, boasting a combined capacity of 1,166 MW.
Godewind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3: Powering Tomorrow
These offshore wind farms in Germany, powered by cutting-edge 11-MW Siemens Gamesa turbines, are poised to supply clean energy to approximately 1.2 million households annually. Borkum Riffgrund 3 will join Ørsted’s existing offshore wind farms, Borkum Riffgrund 1 and 2, while Gode Wind 3 is strategically located close to Ørsted’s Gode Wind 1 and 2. Anticipated to be operational by 2024 and 2025, these projects are expected to have a positive impact on the environment and neighboring communities.
Morten Hinrichs, Head of Project Management at SAL Heavy Lift, expressed optimism, stating, “We anticipate that these projects will positively impact the environment and neighboring communities. We are highly optimistic that these initiatives will create a positive impact on the lives of the local people and enhance the ecological balance in the region.”
MV Lone’s Integral Role in Offshore Installation
The offshore installation vessel Les Alizés has already commenced installing the 107 monopile foundations, including one for the Offshore Substation (OSS). MV Lone’s scope involves the installation of boat landings, platforms, and corrosion protection systems on the foundations. The execution phase, initiated on 6 August, aims to ensure excellent service for the client throughout the project.
Morten Hinrichs further emphasized the significance of their involvement, stating, “We are proud to be part of this project in the renewable energy industry, striving to develop sustainable energy further and provide more households with access to green electricity.”
