MOL and DP World Join Forces to Revolutionize Auto Logistics and Cut Carbon Emissions in UAE Maritime Sector

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) and DP World have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore opportunities aimed at enhancing auto logistics capabilities at Jebel Ali Port while simultaneously reducing carbon emissions in port and maritime applications in the UAE and beyond.

The signing ceremony, held at Al Majilis meeting room – Jafza 15, coincided with COP 28 and featured key representatives including Mr. Ajay Singh, Managing Executive Officer of MOL, and Mr. Abdulla bin Damithan, CEO DP World GCC.

Exploring New Avenues

The collaborative effort between MOL and DP World encompasses conducting feasibility studies to identify business opportunities related to stocking, enhancing, and strategically redistributing fully assembled cars through Jebel Ali Port. This strategic move is set to amplify the efficiency of the automotive supply chain.

A Green Revolution

Notably, a crucial facet of this partnership is the commitment to decarbonization. Both companies are poised to play a pivotal role in developing the regional market for clean fuels dedicated to maritime and port-based applications. The initiative extends beyond fuel to encompass various decarbonization business areas, aligning with global sustainability goals.

Mr. Abdullah bin Damithan, DPW, expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating, “DP World and MOL have a shared vision for sustainability and excellence in global maritime logistics.” He highlighted the intent to strengthen the partnership to explore innovative ways to enhance the automotive supply chain while supporting decarbonization endeavors in the UAE and the wider Middle East.

Shared Commitment to Sustainability

Mr. Ajay Singh, MOL, emphasized the significance of the partnership, stating, “MOL is honored to strengthen our relationship with DPW.” He outlined MOL’s commitment to investing in facilities at Jebel Ali, contributing to the growth of the auto logistics business in the Indian Ocean region. Importantly, Singh highlighted the alignment of the maritime decarbonization project with MOL’s environmental roadmap, aiming to transition hundreds of vessels to clean fuels in the coming years.

Toward a Greener Future

MOL has strategically positioned its environmental strategy as a key component of its “BLUE ACTION 2035” management plan. The company is resolute in achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, as outlined in the “MOL Group Environmental Vision 2.2.” Through the alliance with DPW, MOL aims to significantly contribute to greenhouse gas reduction in ports and vessels around the UAE and GCC, fostering the realization of a low-carbon and decarbonized society.

In conclusion, this strategic collaboration between MOL and DP World not only marks a significant milestone in the evolution of maritime and auto logistics but also sets a commendable precedent for sustainable practices within the industry.
