TOKYO— Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) proudly announced today that its Chairman, Junichiro Ikeda, has been bestowed with the prestigious “Don Jose Falcon” National Award of Excellence by H.E. the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Paraguay, Mr. Rubén Ramírez Lezcano. The award ceremony took place during Mr. Lezcano’s official visit to Japan on March 11, 2024. This accolade acknowledges MOL’s pivotal role in transporting fire engines to Paraguay, solidifying the company’s commitment to global cooperation and corporate citizenship.
The award was presented in recognition of MOL’s longstanding cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Paraguay in Japan and the Japan Firefighters Association in facilitating the donation of fire engines to Paraguayan volunteer firefighting organizations. Over the years, MOL has provided essential marine transportation services, enabling the delivery of 133 vehicles on 19 separate occasions since 2010.
These fire engines have played a vital role in bolstering Paraguay’s rescue infrastructure, significantly enhancing the country’s capacity to respond to natural disasters and accidents. Mr. Toshifumi Akimoto, President of the Japan Firefighters Association, was also honored alongside Chairman Ikeda, emphasizing the strong bond between Japan and Paraguay forged through collaborative efforts.
Expressing his gratitude during the award reception, Chairman Ikeda extended his appreciation to the Republic of Paraguay, its embassy in Japan, and the Japan Firefighters Association. He reaffirmed MOL’s unwavering commitment to supporting Paraguayan society through continued collaboration and service.
