SAL Heavy Lift, a prominent player in the heavy lift and project cargo sector, is set to bolster its fleet with the acquisition of two cutting-edge semi-submersible deck carriers, the Zhong Ren 121 and Zhong Ren 122. In collaboration with Shanghai Salvage, these vessels are anticipated to join the fleet between December 2023 and February 2024, presenting a significant milestone for the German heavy lift and engineering expert.

Dr. Martin Harren, CEO of SAL Heavy Lift, expressed the strategic importance of this move, stating, “Our combined MPP and heavy lift fleet is one of the world’s leading fleets. However, the demands, especially in the offshore wind sector, are becoming increasingly extensive. These new additions allow us to meet and even exceed these requirements, offering our customers more choices and better solutions.”

The Zhong Ren 121 and Zhong Ren 122 bring unique capabilities, including the ability to carry floating cargo in semi-submersible mode, ultra-modern DP2 technology, and impressive cargo deck capacity. Matthieu Moerman, Director Chartering & Project at Jumbo-SAL-Alliance, highlighted that these vessels empower the company to undertake cargo transportation and projects that were previously inconceivable with the existing fleet.

Key features of the new carriers include a length of 169 meters, a width of 39.8 meters, a deadweight tonnage of 26,000 tons, and accommodation facilities for up to 59 people. After their delivery, SAL plans to utilize the vessels for cargo transports from Asia to Europe, followed by deployment in an offshore wind farm project in the USA.
