Scan Global Logistics (SGL) has successfully acquired Portuguese logistics firm Freight & Logistics Solutions (FLS). This acquisition not only marks SGL’s continuous expansion but also positions it strongly in Portugal, a crucial gateway to South America and African regions, completing the logistics giant’s footprint on the Iberian Peninsula. With the addition of FLS, SGL’s global reach now extends to 49 countries.

The acquisition of FLS is part of SGL’s rapid succession of strategic expansions. In the last six months alone, SGL has added key players to its portfolio, including Sand Road Freight in Denmark, ETS Transport & Logistics, ETS Fulfillment in Germany, and Belglobe in Switzerland. SGL is signaling that more acquisitions are on the horizon, underscoring the company’s commitment to a path of ambitious growth.

SGL’s growth strategy is not limited to acquisitions. The logistics provider is also focusing on organic growth, as evidenced by the recent establishment of new offices in Romania, Kenya, South Africa, and France. This dual approach reflects SGL’s unwavering dedication to its ambitious growth journey.

Expanding Defence Logistics Capabilities

SGL’s venture into defence logistics gained momentum in 2021 when it secured a significant 7-year contract with the Danish Ministry of Defence. This contract encompasses civil transport for Danish Defense exercises and international missions, including logistical support for the Arctic Command. Successful execution of numerous projects, including transports for the US military and NATO, has underscored SGL’s capabilities under this agreement.

FLS, with its national and NATO accreditations crucial for the defence sector, aligns seamlessly with SGL’s goals. Thomas Lyck, Executive Vice President of Government & Defence at SGL, notes that FLS’s strong relations with the Portuguese Ministry of Defence and its unique IT solution tailored to defence customers’ demands will augment SGL’s comprehensive support and value-added solutions globally.

A Shared Customer-Centric Approach

Founded in 2014, FLS operates with offices in Porto, Lisbon, and Funchal, Madeira, and has established a reputation for its purpose-driven, customer-centric approach. This aligns perfectly with SGL’s culture and values, making the acquisition a natural fit.

António Beirão, Founder and CEO at FLS, emphasizes the alignment of values, stating, “We see eye to eye on significant matters and share a common business approach of building close customer relations on trust, transparency, and industry know-how.” The transaction is pending approval by the Portuguese Competition Authority, with both parties eager to finalize the acquisition soon thereafter.
