Successful First Voyages for EasyMax Vessel ‘Amalia’ Marks a Milestone in Wagenborg Fleet

The M.V. Amalia, Wagenborg’s latest addition to its fleet of sustainable MPP vessels, has completed its maiden voyages under the adept command of Captain Joenamar S. Bacuetes. Following its delivery in January, the vessel embarked on a journey that showcased its capabilities and green credentials.

The initial voyage saw the M.V. Amalia transport 13,500 tonnes of alumina from Brake to the Norwegian port of Mosjoen. Impressively, the EasyMax vessel then set course for Herøya, loading fertilizers destined for Rotterdam. These successful voyages underscore the vessel’s efficiency and versatility in handling diverse cargo types.

The EasyMax ship concept, recognized as the greenest in the Wagenborg fleet, earned the Maritime Shipping Award in 2017 for its groundbreaking design and superior fuel efficiency. With a remarkable cargo capacity of 13,800 tonnes and a voluminous hold intake of 625,000 cbft, Wagenborg has achieved the feat of constructing a sizable vessel without a substantial increase in overall dimensions.

One of the distinguishing features of the M.V. Amalia is its eco-friendly profile, with an installed power of less than 3,000 kW and an aerodynamic hull shape. These design elements contribute to an extraordinarily low fuel consumption, resulting in over 60% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to its peer group. This places the EasyMax as the greenest multipurpose vessel in its class, aligning seamlessly with Wagenborg’s commitment to sustainability.

The success of the M.V. Amalia is a testament to Wagenborg’s dedication to innovation and environmental responsibility. The vessel’s operational efficiency and eco-friendly design not only position it as a standout in the fleet but also reinforce Wagenborg’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.

Looking ahead, 2024 promises further expansion of Wagenborg’s sustainable fleet, with the anticipation of a fourth EasyMax vessel delivery. Subsequently, a fifth sister vessel is slated to join the fleet in the following year, marking a continuous stride toward a more sustainable and efficient maritime future.
