Blue Solutions Partners with Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne for Breakthrough Battery Research

In a groundbreaking collaboration, Blue Solutions, a prominent entity under the Bolloré Group specializing in lithium metal and polymer all-solid-state electric batteries, has joined forces with Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne (SIPBB). This partnership aims to drive innovation in battery technology, particularly in the field of all-solid-state lithium batteries for commercial vehicles. Blue Solutions brings its 12-year expertise in designing and manufacturing electric batteries on two continents, while SIPBB, a Swiss private non-profit organization, is renowned for its industry-focused applied research and development initiatives.

Under the umbrella of this strategic partnership, three major research projects have been outlined:

  1. Automated Disassembly of Battery Packs: The process of disassembling battery packs and modules is a critical stage in extending the life of batteries. This collaboration seeks to leverage advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence and specific electrical accreditations, to streamline and optimize this procedure.
  2. Modeling and Digital Twin Project: By creating a digital twin, the partnership intends to simulate and model the cell and part of the battery production process. This approach will lead to a deeper understanding of battery behavior and potential enhancements.
  3. Accelerated Aging Tests: The collaboration also involves conducting accelerated aging tests on battery cells. This research will provide valuable insights into the durability and performance of the all-solid-state batteries.

The Swiss Battery Technology Center (SBTC), a core research center within SIPBB, will play a pivotal role in this collaboration. By working alongside Blue Solutions, SBTC will contribute its expertise and resources to drive innovation in battery technology.

Richard Bouveret, CEO and Chairman of Blue Solutions, expressed his optimism about the partnership, stating, “The close collaboration with SIPBB’s Swiss Battery Technology Center will enable Blue Solutions to strengthen the three pillars of its DNA – Safe, Clean, and Smart solutions.” He highlighted the focus on accelerated aging tests, automatic disassembly, and the development of the Battery Twin Digital as key aspects of the collaboration.

Christian Ochsenbein, Director of SBTC and a member of the SIPBB Board, emphasized the partnership’s potential to bridge the gap between research and industry. He noted, “Our R&D centers show how to put new technologies into practice, bridging the gap between research and industry.” This collaboration provides an environment conducive to fostering innovation and driving growth in battery technology.

This partnership coincides with Blue Solutions’ collaboration agreements with Swiss academic institutions, the Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH), and the CSEM (Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology) in Neuchâtel. Together, these collaborations aim to propel the development of the next generation of all-solid-state batteries, a critical factor in the transition to all-electric vehicles.

The collaboration between Blue Solutions and SIPBB marks a significant step forward in battery research and development. With a focus on innovation, safety, and sustainability, this partnership has the potential to revolutionize the future of electric vehicle technology.
