CLdN, the European freight specialist, has chartered two additional RoRo vessels to increase sailings between the Continent and Ireland, increasing from eight to ten in each direction, on a weekly basis.
An additional chartered vessel and previously announced Cadena 3 have been chartered to cover this
expansion and prepare the way for the introduction of further newbuilds arriving in Q4 2021, which
have the benefit of offering dual-fuel propulsion (LNG).
“The additional sailings will be provided on the Zeebrugge / Rotterdam / Dublin routes and come on the
back of strong demand from our customers and with excellent support of both the Port of Dublin and
Doyle group, CLdN’s stevedore, who have invested heavily to allow these developments to take place.”
CLdN will introduce the additional sailings provisionally during week 20, when the vessels arrive on hire,
as the Cadena 3 is undergoing technical repairs presently and the latest chartered vessel is being
repositioned from the Med.
A spokesman commented on the expansion of the Irish service: ”Following our previously announced
third weekly sailing from Zeebrugge to Dublin with Cadena 3, we are pleased to further strengthen our
position on Rotterdam to Dublin route to five weekly sailings, in order to comply to surging customer
demand. Chartering an additional vessel too, allows us to deploy both vessels on the Irish routes in a
combined wedge schedule, to add frequency and capacity from both Rotterdam and Zeebrugge. Our
customers will be able to benefit from this increased frequency on both services, enabling quick
turnaround times of their assets. Our unaccompanied product perfectly fits current market development
as well as offering the intermodal solution with a low carbon footprint.“
CLdN, who have operated direct services from the Continent to Ireland for over 21 years, see this
move as further justification in their long-term strategy to offer direct, unaccompanied solutions to
customers, matching those offered on other direct routes and following market demand.
