Fugro IOVTEC Expands Geotechnical Testing Capabilities with New Laboratory in Taiwan

Geo-data expert Fugro has unveiled its latest venture—a cutting-edge geotechnical testing laboratory situated in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. This facility marks a significant stride in augmenting Fugro’s proficiency in delivering advanced geotechnical testing services, particularly catering to the offshore wind sector, as well as the broader energy and infrastructure domains.

This innovative laboratory is poised to amplify Fugro’s lab capacity in the Asia Pacific region by a noteworthy 20%, promising a substantial reduction of at least 30% in testing turnaround times. The pivotal role of soil testing services cannot be overstated; they provide crucial insights into site conditions essential for the foundational design of offshore wind farms.

Established in 2020, Fugro IOVTEC emerged from a collaborative effort with IOVTEC Co., Ltd., solidifying Fugro’s commitment to fortifying its presence in Taiwan’s burgeoning offshore wind market. This latest addition bolsters Fugro’s existing arsenal of three advanced testing facilities in the Asia Pacific region, spanning Australia, Singapore, and now, Taiwan.

Vincent Tsai, Chairman of International Ocean Group and Deputy GM of Fugro IOVTEC, expressed enthusiasm about partnering with global enterprises that recognize the potential of Taiwan’s offshore wind sector. Tsai emphasized that the new laboratory underscores Fugro’s dedication to enhancing local capabilities, affirming Taiwan’s pivotal role in propelling the energy transition throughout the region.

Nancy Chan, Director of Engineering and Laboratory at Fugro Singapore Marine and General Manager of Fugro IOVTEC (Taiwan), pointed out the escalating emphasis on curbing collective carbon emissions. The Asia Pacific region is actively transitioning towards more resilient energy systems to foster a safer and more habitable world. The laboratory expansion significantly bolsters Fugro’s stance in meeting industry demands and supporting the region’s burgeoning offshore wind aspirations.

A notable milestone for Fugro IOVTEC’s Taiwan laboratory is its accreditation in alignment with the Taiwan Accreditation Foundation (TAF)’s ISO 17892 standard, setting a benchmark for industry excellence.
